PUMPKIN PATCH MESSY PLAY
PUMPKIN PATCH MESSY PLAY
A FUN MESSY PLAY FOR THE FALL SEASON
In a perfect world we would live on a property that would allow us to have a real pumpkin patch. In a perfect world I would also know how to grow a real pumpkin patch… But, reality is we live in a townhouse who’s backyard doesn’t even have grass.
So pumpkin patch messy play in the Ikea Flisat table it is!
MATERIALS
- Ikea Flisat table
- Two Ikea Trofast bins
- Small plastic pumpkins
- Soil
- Water
- Soap
- Scrubbing brushes, sponges and/or dish cloths
AT THE PUMPKIN WASH
I used the deeper Trofast bin for the washing well and filled it about halfway with water and dish soap. The pumpkin patch was just potting soil mixed with a little water. The pumpkins were a thrift store find for super, super cheap!
If you’re using bigger pumpkins, a lot of pumpkins or doing the activity with an older child you could use the deeper Trofast bin, more soil and bury the pumpkins in layers!
We had a super hot fall season this year so we were able to do this outside as a quiet time activity with the toddler during the younger ones nap time!
This activity was definitely on the maybe list at first. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be interesting enough but figured the only way we would know was to try! In the end it was interesting for her. Every few clean pumpkins I would toss them back in and it lasted for a good hour before her attention span was over it!
